Hadong myeon, Yeong wol  gun
Song eo, Keokji, Galkyeoni, ...

This stream that comes in sight on the way to Bonghwa rises around Kimsatgat's old residence in the west of Yeongwol. In the vicinity of the stream, there are several trouts fisheries that provide trouts to the stream by escapes. Jikdong valley, an effluent of Okdong cheon is much more productive. The scenery of the valley is beautiful and the hamlets are quiet. It takes aprox. 4 hours by car from Seoul.(PHOTO :Lower part of trout farm in Jikdong valley)

There are always quite many trouts in the stream of Jikdong valley, escaped from the trout farms. Around two trout farms on Okdong valley, you would hook some trouts easily, and Jikdong valley also productive. Several years ago, Okdong cheon was a remote, secluded and serene stream and plenty of trouts were hooked there but now, with the paved road that allows easy access to many cars, garbage left by many people to enjoy dabbling in water and contamination of nature by the road  construction change its looks a lot.

Nevertheless, this stream still provides quite good opportunities to meet the trouts, for the fly fishers, on the clear water flowing through big rocks, making the deep pools, rapids, torrents and riffles along the mountain skirts where the old pine trees on the cliffy slope stand obliquely.

It is quite a long journey to Okdong cheon but adding to fantastic fishing adventure with some trouts on your fly rods, the scenic surroundings on deep valleys will surely compensate your distance and fatigue. Actually, Okdong cheon is abundant in water flow, comparing other streams in the small valleys, that you would feel a real joy of the stream fishing in a variety of scenic beauty.

Jikdong Kyegok (valley) :

Jikdong kyegok (valley) that is narrower than Okdong kyegok is more attractive for fly fishers. The spots available for lure castings are relatively limited. It is not easy to hit the trouts that became sensitive to noise in the stream slow and shallow. Quiet approach is the only tactic to hit.

Passing by Jikdong bunkyo (branch school) and Nokjeon bunkyo, you will find the first trout farm after going up quite a while. The parking space is enough for several cars in the vicinity. The recommended spots are around the spillway, lower and upper part of it. Probability to hook the trouts is better at upper part where much more pools and rapids are made. ...//
