Mitan myeon, Pyeong chang gun
Song eo, Galkyeoni, Keokji, ...

Kihwa cheon takes its rise from a spring at Mitan myeon which is located between Pyeongchang and Jeongseon. It is a narrow and shallow stream but there are many trouts escaped from the trout fishery near the stream. You can catch some trouts in each pool by several castings of fly fishing. It meets Dong gang within 5 km from the place on the photo, at Jintan ferry. It takes aprox. 3 hours and half by car from Seoul.

Spillway of trout farms

It is said that there are more than 10 trout farms at Kihwa cheon.

Naturally, the main species of Kihwacheon are trouts escaped from the fisheries. This stream has many trouts escaped and lots of them were born wild in the stream. Thanks to the dense population of trouts, 'no fish' in outing on this stream is rare. (PHOTO : Fishing in spillway of a trout farm on Kihwacheon)

The best spots to explore are around the spillway of trout farms. Considering every fishers fish first on spillways, you'd better try to attack a blind point, namely fishing on the secluded spots. Such a strategy could bring you soe\metimes an unexpected victory.

The trouts in Kihwacheon are generally sensitive that a careful approach and presentation only ensure the successful hooking. They prefer nymphs to other flies, especially caddis on hook number 12 are mortal weapons.

Other spots :

Adding to the spillways, water barrier in front of the village, around the pool under the shade of the trees, surface with rocky bottom, riffles with bubbles are worth of quest.  Nearer to the confluence with Dong gang you dorp down the stream, more trouts seem to come up.

Kihwacheon has many camping sites shaded by the trees with gravel and sandy beaches on lots of crooks of the flow. Particular point to consider on this stream is that there are not so many species, only trout and some Keokji you would hook.

How to get there :

Take the direction to Jeongseon from Pyeonchang Eup. Around 2.5 km or so after passing by Mitan, turn to the right before crossing over Baek wun kyo. Thus, you are on the only winding road to Kihwacheon. ...//
