The main species is Keokji, Sogari, Pirami, and sometimes trouts. It takes about 2 and half hours by car from Seoul. (PHOTO : Lower section of 1st Mureung kyo.  Good spot for lure, fly and Kyeonji fishing. Fishing on the course between Docheon kyo ~ Jucheon kyo, much lower stretch than the area on photo is prohibited due to the source of potable water. )

1st Mureung kyo :

The river flows wide and shallow within this area.  Even Kyeonji fishing will be available after rain. But, fly fishing is always good for Pirami and so on. (PHOTO: View on 1st Mureung kyo toward upper section)

1st Mureung kyo ~ 2nd Mureung kyo :

There are mainly bait fishers on the shore. Sandy beach is good for camping. But this spot is suitable for fly fishing mostly. As the bottom is plane, it is easy to wade wide area. You would hook some wild trouts that escaped from the trout farm at upper section. (PHOTO: View from lower part of Dowon bo toward Yoseon jeong)

Upper section of 2nd Mureung kyo :

The water repeats riffles and rapids within this area. Kyeonji fishing(Korean traditional bait fishing) is popular on this spot. Keokji are coming up some on lure fishing. Meanwhile, fly fishers can hit many Pirami and Megui (far eastern catfish).

Proceeding to upward, Beop heung valley begins on your right beyond Yoseon jeong (bower). The valley is small but the water is so clean that it calls many families to dabbing in water in the summer season. Even after summer holiday season, this valley is not good for fishing.

Yoseon jeong (bower) :

The river has depth of 3 ~ 4 meter and runs fast, within this spot. Lure fishing and other bait fishing are popular. In the summer holiday season, this place is a little crowded with the people who set tents to fish and relax for several days as they are fond of the scenic surroundings. The river flows through and on the rocks of fantastic shape. The atmosphere is good for camping but not as good for fishing.

Lower section of Dowon bo(barrier) ~ Yoseon jeong (bower) :

The section is shown on the third picture from the top. The bottom is covered with rocks through whole the course. Keokji are coming up a lot as if they ambushed all the shades of rocks at bottom  Smallies of Sogari would also hit your  lures (spinners). On flies, Pirami are coming up. The road runs beside the river for all the course, making you easy to access to the spots. The river, within this area, is secluded and beautiful.

(PHOTO: View from the pass after Docheon kyo toward upper section of Jucheon gang.)
The river has emerald color and mixed almost all kinds of surfaces in a short crook like torrent, rapids, riffle, shallow, run and pool. To approach to the shore, you have to cross the forest from the right of the photo. and you would feel cozy due to the forest fence befhind you and opposite mountain across the clear water of the river. Camping ground under the forest seems fantastic. On the pool of the river, Sogari , Keokji, Pirami come up on lure and fly fishing.)

Upper section of dowon bo(barrier) :

almost all kinds of fishers are mostly cast around the bridge. The spots for Sogari a little more upward seem highly fertile, at a glance, but as any other spots on Jucheon gang, this place was probably ruined by overfishing and illegal holocaust. Sogari don't come out to greeting to anglers. Instead, there are still many other species for lure and fly fishing. Bait fishings are popular between dowon kyo and Docheon kyo, particularly.

Chowon farm ~ Neujinae (village) :

The rocky bottom is continued for whole course within this area. Fishers notice easily that is the ambush of Sogari, at a glance. People say the Sogari was plenty in old day but today, you would hit Keokji a lot and Sogar sometimes.

You would find, in summer, many Kyeonji fishers on water. It means that Pirami are plenty in the river. The environment is best for fly fishing. The surrounding of the valley is so scenic that there are always some tents ofn the shore.

Hapsumeuri (confluence) :

A trout farm within this area was once flooded and the trouts escaped were almost crowded in every pools and rapids of the river, making the people mad. The space suitable for camping is spread widely. The good spots for bait fishing around the opposite bluffs are also good for both lure and fly fishing. Species are Sogari, Keokji. And you would hook a wild trout sometimes, if you would be lucky.

Dugak kyo, Dusan kyo : (Refer the map on the page 'Seomani gang')

There is a sandy beach spread under the pine forest like a folding screen on the opposite shore of Dugak kyo. On the beach, any kinds of fishing is available and it is crowded with fishers, in summer. Forest and sandy beach are continued toward the upper stretch over Dugak kyo, too. The road to those spots are so rough that many fishers do not try to visit there frequently. but all kinds of fishings are good and many Keokji bite and Megui, sometimes, on those spots. Moreover, 'no fish' sometimes doesn't matter on the spots surrounded with such a good scenery.

How to get there :

Take Yeongdong express way and change to Joong ang  express way until you get out at Sinrim I.C.. And take the road #402 toward Yeongwol and drive up the pass about 12 km to arrive at Hwangdun.
