Nae myeon, Hong cheon gun
Sancheoneo, Galkyeoni, Yeolmogueo, ...

In Jawun cheon, fishing is worse than before because the stream has been much ruined by many resort facilities built along the stream. Meanwhile, fishing condition is still not bad around the pine forest at 'Gwangwon ri', the junction of those three streams, around Gwangwon bridge over Kyebang cheon and around Nairin cheon.

Naerin cheon flows through the valley of absolute beauty providing good places for camping in every crooks. In the summer, there are so many tents that the anglers should cast at dawn. You can meet many Galkyeoni and several Sancheoneo in every trips. It takes aprox.4 hours by car from Seoul.(PHOTO : Around Morae so - sandy pool - Lowest part of Jawun cheon)

 Jawun cheon :

A forked street that leads Sang nam and Nae myeon comes in sight within about 15 km after passing over Wundu ryeong (pass) via Soksa. Turing to the right there, pass by the seat of Nae myeon office, and you will find the entrance of Jawun cheon in the valley on your right.  Firstly, you'd better fish around the water barriers for Keokji. About 1 km lower, there is a junction where the effluent from Daehan dong(village) joins the stream. On the spots around the wide sandy beach, any kinds of fishings are good. Going upward from the sandy beach to Daehan dong, some Yeolmok eo were inhabited and protected as endangered species. Now the fishing ban was removed as the increase of fish population.

Actually, Yeolmok eo come up sometimes everywhere around Jawun cheon and Narin cheon. The stream flows wide and shallow to Sohan kyo (bridge). Those fishing spots will be activated after heavy rain. Around Sohan kyo, Keokji are picked up mostly and you would hook some trouts, sometimes. The trouts are taking their first relax around here after having escaped from the fishery named "Sohan dong trout farm' located on upper stream. Within the area between Sohan kyo to Wondang kyo, many fishing spots come in sight so various that you can fish on all the spots like a parade or choose one of them to inspect around completely for hours.

Between Sondang kyo and Jawun kyo, park your car on the space after passing by Wondang elementary school and access to the stream. The probability to hook trouts on that spot is best in the vicinity.

Jawuncheon is no more the clean water as it was a few years ago. Due to the jungle of stores, homestays, commercial  camping yards, motels and other facilities built near and aling the stream without the sufficient sewage treatment, the water lost already its purity.  Its life as the source of the fishing spots seems almost to be terminated and will flow as the simple fresh water suitable for dabbing of children.

 Kyebang cheon :
The stream that flows toward Jawun kyo (bridge), installed at the confluence of lowest part of Jawun cheon, from its right side called Kyebang cheon and it changes the name as Naerin cheon as soon as passing under Jawun kyo toward its left.

Around the confluence under Jawun kyo (shown on the right photo) is good but, the best recommendable spots are, in about 1.5 km to your right to upper stream, pools and rapids below Woldun kyo where you can hook Yeolmok eo , trouts, Sancheon eo and so on.

To acces to the points, do not cross Woldun kyo and go down the ramp to the shore covered with big gravels just like rocks spread about 100 meters at which you can cast lure and flies to opposite bluffs on the beautiful mountains. You can hook some trout almost surely on those pools and rapids. The water is so clear that you can see the shades of fish through the whirl. (PHOTO : Jawun kyo)

You can wade for about 200 ~ 300meters downard, casting flies to the opposite mountains, and hooking  Galkyeoni, Pirami and Yeolmok eo, Sancheon eo, trouts etc. It is one of the indispensable course for the fly fishers to check the overall condition of the stream before dropping down Naerin cheon.(PHOTO : View on Woldun kyo toward the rapids on Kyebang cheon )

Meanwhile, the upper part of Woldun kyo is wide and shallow, not suitable to cast lures. The only spot recommendable is located on the pools  at the crook of Kyebang cheon, passing by the pine forest in front of Sindae dong (village). It is a fishing point that the habitants nearby like to hoist trouts on baits. You will also catch the trouts probably on careful castings. The problem for tourist fishers are that they have many other good fishing spots seem more probable nearby and can not spend long time on that spot.

 Naerin cheon :

Naerin cheon (stream) begins its name and life from the junction of Jawun cheon and Kyebang cheon under Jawun kyo (bridge) at Kwangwon ri (village), and makes a long winding journey to irrigate finally Soyang gang, engendering the utmost scenic beauty on its innumerable crooks.  This stream became so famous to non fishers too today that much more people come to camp every summers., setting up lots of tents on some good camping grounds.

Nevertheless, you can find lots of spots available, avoiding the jam of non fishers, as the stream is long and winding enough. (PHOTO : pools and rapids at lower part of Woldun kyo. Resource of trouts and Yeolmok eo etc..)

Dropping down Naerin cheon, you can drive to Saeng dun (village) and road for vehicles ends there. From Saeng dun to Misan, rest of the course which keeps still an intact scenic beauty, should be quested on foot. Cars should take a detour up to Sang nam myeon of Inje gun and come up along the stream toward Misan

Gadeok kyo (bridge) below the fish farm

The stream runs a little fast. Fishing spots are between the bridge to the confluence. Probablility for trout is highest in the vicinity. The majority of habitants is Sancheoeo, Keokji, Pirami, Galkyeoni, Yeolmok eo and trouts. On the shore of confluence, you can find some bait fishers sitting behind their rods, expecting a bite like thunderstorm. (PHOTO : Durra on the bank of confluence. Fishery is on the left at the end of durra.)

Below the pine forest :

To access to the spots, park your car on the roadside (this secluded road has no traffic) and take a lane under the forest. You will reach a pool on the stream at the edge of trees. It is a steady spot for Sancheoneo (cherry trout). Yeolmok eo also come up sometimes and Galkyeoni are plenty. This spot is nicely located in a cozy valley for a wonderful fishing trip with camping under the dark forest. On the stream a little lower from the pool, you will see some Kyeonji (Korean traditonal bait fishing) fishers are continuously hooking Galkyeoni, in summer. Even after summer holiday season, you will find sometimes one or two tents under the forest, camping and fishing on the pool..

Distant valley :

Passing by the pine forest, you will see a distant valley beside the right roadside, that drives the stream away, sliding down from the road that just strats climbing up a hill. (PHOTO : Distant valley).

I remember my first discovery of this distant valley long time ago. In a sunny morning of an early summer, when I just drove out from a shade of a mountain, the stream Naerin cheon just came again suddenly in my sight below the right roadside, with a misty sound of the drums like a shower, flowing on the bottom of  the distant valley, making a big whirl at the left corner of its crook, refleting the mixed color of greenish blue from its pool and white from the bubble of the rapids. The spectacle made me sigh.

Due to the fast and obstacled slope, I could not try to access to the bottom of the valley easily. One day finally, I adventured an access down to the valley. The slope of the mountain was quite hard to go down. The most interested spot to fish was the pool on the right curve of the stream but I began fishing from the rapids at the upper part of the course. As I imagined, the stream seemed remained intact and the fish were really plenty. Dropping down to the pool, I hooked, on my flies, several sancheoneo over than 20 cm, plenty of Galkyeoni, two big Yeolmok eo, smallies too. Approaching to the pool, I hooked a big wild trout. The final destination of my fishing trip was originally Saeng dun, lowest section of Naerin cheon, but I, fascinated with good fishing, changed my mind, then, to stay in the distant valley for a whole day. The distant valley was really a hidden paradise of fishing. You'd better to be accompanied by friends since it is a quite isolated place. Coming back up to the road you parked the car is just like a climbing. But the distant valley is worth of such endeavor.

Cemented bridge in front of homestay :

Homestays are located at Saeng dun, much lower from the distant valley. Passing by the homestay and crossing over Saeng dun 1st kyo and turning to the left, the road for vehicle ends at Saeng dun elementary school closed. To access to the spots in the valley, park your car on the cemented bridge after passing by the homestay and go down directly to the shore of the steam  where a good variety of spots spread widely receives you warmly. The species are varied : Sancheoneo, Yeolmok eo, Pirami, Galkyeoni, trouts and Keokji, etc..  No 'no fish'  is guaranteed !

Saeng dun is the end of of Naerin cheon, accessible by car from upper part of the stream. For exploring the spots at much lower stretch, you have to go on foot. The road for vehicle will appear again at Misan.

How to get there :

Destination upward : Inje - Pi ah si - Hyeon ri - Sang nam - Misan

Destination downward : Soksa intersection of Yeong dong express way - Lee seung bok memorial -  Wundu ryeong (pass) - Chang chon. ...//
