Keum gang, a long snake river makes at its all crooks numerous scenic fishing spots for Sogari, Keuri, and almost all species, with spectacular lakes Chungju ho and Daecheong ho made by the dams on its flow.

We hereby introduce some nice spots on Keum gang and other rivers like Jisu ri, Dopari, Simcheon, Hwayang kyeogok (valley) and so on. where you can catch fish anytime.

JoJeongJi Dam      JungWonGun       


This is the subsidairy dam built for additional control of water level on lower section of main Chungju dam. There are many kinds of species in the spillway. Even in the winter, trouts are occasionally caught on lure or fly fishing. To this dam from the 'meeting square' on Jungbu express way, it takes merely one and half hours. Around famous [Ipseok fishing garden] that has rich grassbeds, there are lots of good fishing spots for bass, like Wolsang ri, Tap pyeong ri, Wonpo ri, by-channel of Nuam ri etc.. Below the dam, pools area in much lower section near the airport and around the snack house in about 100

meter lower next to the dam are also good points. Ttransportation and access to the spots are all easy.. It takes about two hours by car from Seoul.

This  spot is productive atfer heavy rain. It is quite big by-channel with over 100 meter wide and very deep on some places. Such exceptional wide and deep surrounding supplies good shelters for fish, especially for bass for long time, who flooded from the main stream. Anglers can take bites of bass until the end of drought season. There are lots of Sogari, Megui biting lures, as well. Come out from Jungbu express way through exit [Iljuk I.C.(interchange)], drive toward to Jecheon direction. Passing by Yangseong,

cross the  bridge towards Neung am oncheon (Hot spring), at Neung am ri. Next to the bridge, the fishing spots appear within about 3 km. It takes about two and half hours by car from Seoul.

 

BaekGokJi (Impoundment)     JinCheonEup, JinCheonGun      


This is one of the best spots for Keuri on lures almost four seasons, except a few days of freezing the surface in the winter. It is one of the three reservoirs that Jin cheon citizens are proud of : with Chopyeong ji, Deoksan ji. Surrounding is suitable for making an amusement park that the provincial authorities are constructing various facilities. In the summer, people enjoy water skiing, motor boat cruising, etc.. The water quality is superior. In the winter, frozen surface of the lake is crowded with ice fishers for 'Bing eo', kind of small minnows that they eat raw. Coming out from exit [Jincheon I.C.] of Jungbu

express way, drive toward to Cheongju(not Chungju !) for about 10 minutes. You will see the dike of the impoundment alongside the road. It takes about 2 and half hours by car from Seoul.

From Jojeongji dam, drive toward to main Chungju dam. Passing over the main dam, you will find the fishing place at Hwa am ri (PHOTO) in a few minutes. It is a good spot for Keuri on lures. Fishing section is spread widely along the shore. Even in the winter, Keuri are active against lures. You can pick up Sogari occasionally and number of Gangjunchi as well. It takes about three hours by car from Seoul.

Around Cheong pung kyo(bridge) that is located at upper section of Chungju ho(lake), the spots are excellent providing various species like Sogari, Keuri, Gangjunchi and so on. Especially, around ferry, you can pick up lots of Keuri on almost every trips. To hit the points around the bridge, you should go down the rocky bluffs sometimes or approch on boat. These points become highly productive usually after heavy rain and change of fooded water. It takes about three and half hours by car from Seoul .

 

SamTanRi on ChungJuHo(Lake)      SanCheokMyeon, JungWongun    


It is the upper section of Jecheon cheon(stream) that flows into the middle section of Chungju ho (lake). Water quality is superior and surrounding is fantastic. This place is quite famous as resort and camping grounds. There are homestays, restaurants, snack houses and so on near the fishing places. You can pick up many species in this spot on lure and fly fishing. Especially, there are good pools and rapids, shoals suitable for lure and fly fishing. This stream is so fertile and has various spots that many beginners and novices of fly fishing are fond of fishing there. It takes about three hours by car from Seoul.

 

MokBeolRi on ChungJuHo(Lake)     SalMiMyeon, JungWonGun      


This spot is most steadily productive among all the fishing spots on Chungju ho. On lure fishing, you can pick up lots of fierce fighters like big Keuri and Gangjunch as long as over 50 cm, and Sogari occasionally, as well.  Lure fishing for Keuri and Gangjunchi is available on the shore in 2 km around Jeong min dong seonchak jang (ferry), where bites are frequent. As other spots on Chungju ho, it is more productive after heavy rain. It takes about three hours by car from Seoul.

Gong E Kyo (bridge) on ChungJuHo(Lake)  SalMiMyeon, JungWonGun     


 This bridge is located at the mouth of valley through which Sogari migrate up after rain, so that anglers can enjoy good fishing in monsoon season. Beware when you go down slope on the right of the road that is rocky area. There are some paulownias on the slope. Coming out from exit [Eumseong I.C.], drive toward to Chungju and do not enter to the city but go ahead a bit turning to Suanbo direction at the entrance of Chungju cty. You will find a forked street and take the direction to Danyang there. The bridge is in a few minutes on the way. It takes about three hours by car from Seoul.

One of the best spots for Sogari after rain. Passing over Wol ak kyo(bridge), You will find rocky bluffs where it is hard to cast lures due to downed trees  but you can pick up many small Sogari on 2 inches tube worms. Moving from one to another point is available only after water has been dropped. Ferry located back of the snack house opposite side of the bridge is below the first Songkye bridge, that would be also productive point if you cast to
the rock bluffs below the gas tanks on the left of snack house.  

Hit the upper section and control the lure towards the shore and you will catch more. The best season on this spot is when the water dropped so much that submerged old bridge would come out to surface. It takes about three hours by car from Seoul.

BaekYaJi (impoundment)        KeumWangEup, EumSeongGun      


It is a spot recently well reputed for bass on a Big and beautiful impoundment. Bass are relatively small but lots of fish are coming up. The average size of bass is about 25cm and you can hook occasionally 48cm up too. There are various kinds of points like bush area, structure in the water and so on. Bass in this impoundment is relatively untouched so they are biting almost any kinds of lures. It is good place for beginners.  Coming out from exit [Iljuk I.C.] on Jungbu express way, drive toward to Keumwang eup and turn to the right before passing over Muju kyo(bridge), you will see the dike of Baekyaji within about 1 km. It takes about two and half hours by car form Seoul.

Namhan gang is a really fertile river. Especially the interval from Gosu Daekyo (grand bridge) that connects Danyang to Gosu cave upto Yeongchun located at the upper stretch of the river has been reputed as one of the best fishing points for Sogari and other species in Korea. The good reputation is still valid. The road that goes always along the river makes access to any shore easy  The river has a real variety of points at every crooks. The scenic foothills allong the river, secret beauty of the rocky bluffs hidden under

dense pine forests on the slopes of the mountains and good fishing, furthermore, make anglers to be fanatics of this river. The points on this river are spread so widely that big crowd can make a fishing tirp.at once. In the summer, there are big towns of tents on some shores made of sandy beaches. The trophy species for lure fishers on this spot is Sogari but this river provides many Gangjunchi and Keuri as well that are fighters fiercer than Sogari.  It takes about three and half hours by car from Seoul.

The upward of the river from Sindanyang to Gosu Dong gul(cave) via Yeongchun has been very famous for lure fishing and its scenery.  You can hit many fish on the various fishing spots along this river that flows just beside the road, allowing easy access to the shore which surrounded by extreme beauty at the foot of the mountains with the picturesque bluffs. The rivers provides many fishing spots vast enough for lots of fishers to enjoy

fishing altogether. And the sandy or pebble beach gether many campers in the summer and some beach are crowded with tents. This river are very good for flyfishing Gangjunchi and Keuri who are the fierce fighters. It takes about three and half hours by car from Seoul.

This lake holds especially bigger population of Keuri than other ones. From various points on the lake, fishing for Keuri is available and occasional Sogari, as well. Fishing on this lake is good almost four seasons, except several days on February. The recommended spots to add on this beautiful bridge are around the piers of Hwenam Daekyo (grand bridge), Namdaemun kyo(bridge), Keosin kyo that are all accessible on foot. This lake has many plain shore easy to cast lures from. The surroundings are really poetic that we

would like to recommend to come with your family to enjoy fishing together. It takes about three and half hours by car from Seoul.

DopaRi - on Upper end of KeumGang (River)      BuRiMyeon, KeumSanGun

Dopa ri is a legendary spot for Sogari at upper end of Keum gang, located below Sutong daekyo(grand bridge). But today, fishing is usually done around Sutong ri, a bit upper places. The legend of Sogari (they say Jumbo Sogari over than 1 meter long was average at that time) was not forgotten but very scarce now. Instead, Keokji, Keuri, Pirami are plenty. Atmosphere of village is serene. Water is clear, scenic beauty is notable, campgrounds on the shore are also good. Moreover, there are many good places suitable for fly casting. It takes about four and half hours by car form Seoul.

Wonderful scenic spots for all species on upper stream of Keum gang. You occasionally strikes Sogari too. Below the bridge, you find many good spots made of gravel shoals that you can hit by lure or fly castings. The species on fly fishing are Keuri, Keokji, Pirami and so on. Toward upstream next to bridge, you can pick up Sogari often. The best time is after rain. It is not available to drive upper stream but you find there a lot of fine places for camping under the beautiful forests. It takes about three and half hours by car from Seoul.

JisuRi & DokRak Jeong     AnNamMyeon, OkCheonGun     


It is also one of the legendary spots for Sogari in Korea. The productivity is still on the first rank over the country. It is really abundant in species and fish. The water that comes from Dopa ri and Simcheon that are upper stream of Keum gang passes through [Geumgang Amusement ground] on Kyeongbu express way to arrive at Sang geum maeul, junction with Bocheong cheon. From this village, the fishing spots are spread along the shore of hageum maeul, Gadeok kyo, Jisu ri and to down next to Dokrak jeong. The river irrigates soon Daecheong ho in a few kilometers. When you cast on the rocky

shore in the spring time, you can see a vast flower arrangement on the slopes of foothills of opposite mountains which produces an atmosphere of shangri-la. Especially below Gadeok kyo(bridge) (PHOTO), the rapids are so good and productive with gravel shoals near the shore that many beginners of fly fishing like to have an exercise of fly castings there. During the excercise, most of beginners pick up some big Keuri fiercely fighting against their first fly castings, that makes beginners fascinated with fly fishing. It takes about four hours by car .

This tributary becomes fertile after heavy rain. In draft season, you can hit many Keuri and other species than Sogari. The stream flows through Cheongsan myeon, to join Keum gang at Sang geum maeul(village), upper section of Jisu ri. The good points for Keuri are around the submerged bridge upto pumping up house. The big rock in front of pumping up house holds occasionally 20 ~ 25 cm sized Sogari. The access to Bocheong cheon is different from the one to Jisuri. Coming out from exit [Yeongdong I.C.] on

Kyeongbu express way,  drive toward to Boeun taking the national road No. 19 until you find [Hwaseong elementary school] on your right. Turn to the left next to the school and you will find the submerged bridge on Bocheong cheon within about 4 km. It takes about four hours by car from Seoul.

Dalcheon (Stream) 1 - upper stretch before KweSan Dam

Dalcheon gang is the river that flows in front of Hwayang kyegok (ravine). It has many spots that hold mainly Sogari, Keuri and Keokji. It flows from Bakdea cheon through the front of Hwayang kyegok to irrigate Kwesan ho(lake). There are many rocky bottom areas where Keokji mostly lurk. The width of river are, in average, 30 ~ 50 meters, therefore, no need to cast long distance. Meanwhile, the spots on the river are good for fly casting. the good points for lure and fly castings are Norumok, camping grounds, Neopjeok bawi (flat

rock), front of youth hostel, Dowon kyo(bridge), Handeul bo and so on. Since this river are usually skipped by most of urban anglers, you can enjoy quiet fishing. It takes about three and half hours by car from Seoul.

Dalcheon (Stream) 2 - lower stretch before KweSan Dam

KweSanHo (lake)       ChilSeongMyeon, KweSanGun      


This is the lake made by Kwesan dam built on Dalcheon gang that is a upper stream of Namhan gang. The dam is the smallest in the country among the ones built for  generating electricity. The species are really varied and many kinds of fishers visit for fishing their favorite fish. The surrounding is scenic. There are lots of good camping places and fishing spots along the shore. Castings from the shore hit Keuri well. The good spots of Sogari are around submerged rocky areas and downed trees areas in front of Gulbawi nongwon(farm). Coming out from exit [Jeung pyeong I.C.] on the Jungbu

express way, drive toward Chilseong myeon, next to Kwesan. And, turn to the right for running toward Saeum ri. You will find Kwesan dam in about 3 km. It takes about three hours by car from Seoul.

NongDari  (Stone barrier)  -  the oldest bridge built 2,000 years ago)

Nongdari is a stone bridge-barrier built about 900 years ago on this stream that flows near Jincheon. Up and down to this bridge-barrier, there are good fishing spots for flyfishing. When you hit the pool area before the barrier, you can pick up Keuri and Pirami frequently. Below the barrier - bridge, there are rocky bottom areas that are the points of Keokji. You can find more fishing spots at Students' camping grounds and Pyeongsa nakan (a beautiful crook of a stream with a wide sandy beach  opposite to forestal bluffs

that are near Nongdari). The surrounding is beautiful and recommendable for family camping site. Those are located very near from Jincheon eup. It takes about three hours by car from Seoul.

ChoGangCheon (Stream) &   WolYuBong (Peak)

Chogang cheon is the stream that flows in front of Wolu bong (peak), making a crook around the peak of absolute beauty located in Hwang gan myeon, Yeongdong gun. Clear water makes a fast rapids like a plain torrent around the peak. Upper section before the peak and lower section below [Wolu gang eup(mining company)] are good spots for Sogari, Keuri and Megui.  More up below Woncheon kyo(bridge), there are good forest on the shore nice to set tents. Going further up to upper section before the stream, you have

several ripples, gravel shoals and pools with rapids that are really various points for fly casting. You have a grass grounds suitable for camping, surrounded by opposite scenic bluffs. When you hit the various points you can strike Keuri, Pirami and Megui and so on frequently. This is a quiet fishing place except summer season crowded a bit by campers. . It takes about four hours by car from Seoul.
