Ganseong eup, Goseong gun
Sancheoneo, Keokji, Galkyeoni, Pirami, ...

It is another Buk cheon that runs through Jinbu ryeong, irrigating finally Donghae (East sea). It is also the stream passing through gorge area. The stream is quite long and the gorge is relatively deep. Seeking for fish in every spots of this stream takes a whole day. The scenery is also beautiful and there are many Sancheoneo to catch. You can fish many Galkyeoni, Pirami and Keokji, too. It takes aprox. 4 and half hours by car from Seoul.

You will find Bukcheon when you take the left lane at the resting place of Hankye ri on Hankye ryeong (pass). The best spots to be recommended are spread from Saemaeul to the point of 500 m upward from Jinburyeong resting place. You can also pick up some Keokji and Sancheoneo at lower stretch of Saemaeul but the situation fluctuates much.

Saemaeul (new village) ~ Chilk so (pool of arrowroot) :

On top of Jinbu ryeong (pass), go down about 11 km straight to pass Sinpyeong kyo (bridge), and the signal board of a farm and camping ground will come in sight. Saemaeul is located on your right. Dropping down the road for 10m or so, you will find Buk cheon that flows from your right to left. That is the fishing spot.

Another fishing spot is found within 20 meters around yuwonji (resort are) at upper part of Jangsin 2 kyo (bridge), where some Homestays are located.

On that spot, you can hit Sancheoneo and Keokji

Passing by Yuwonji, pools and rapids are repeated within 300 meters or so. Those are the good spots that you should not skip over. The confluence at Meogunae is more upward. It is not a long section but there are also Sancheoneo. A cascade is found at upper part of Sinpyeong kyo (bridge).

At upper part of confluence of Meogunae, a wide tranquil surface of pool comes in sight. Passing this point, another wide pool comes in sight is Chilk so (arrowroot pool). This pool is a little remote from the road and thrilling. It is one of the best spots on Buk cheon.

Going upward from Chilk so, three pools of similar size appear consecutively. Those are the spots for Sancheoneo.

Below the cemented water barrier is also a good spot. In the pool, there are rocky obstacle. You can hit Sancheoneo on the pool over the water barrier. The best spot is the head of the pool. It is easy to move on the pool and all kinds of fishing are good.

Jechu kyo ~ Jinbu hyukyeso (resort are) :

You can hit Sancheoneo on the pools and the ruined rocky bottom area on your left at the upper part of confluence at Jechu gol(valley). Entering in Jechu gol, you will find a little pool with a graveled shore on the left side of old bridge. On this spot, you can hit some Sancheoneo, in summer, avoiding the crowded hours.

It is hard to move upward but the pools and rapids repeated upto the upper cemented bridge are also good spots. The good spots are found on the junction at Seong hwang gol. The spot of Seong hwang gol is so narrow that fishing is inconvenient. At the point of 300 m or so upward from the junction, there is a wide valley on the left side where an effluent comes in. On this spot, you can probably hook some big Sancheoneo.

If you continue upward, you will reach the junction at Amja gol (valley). Jinbu ryeon hyukyeso (resort area) is located in 500meter or so upward from the junction, and behind it, there is a waterfall that makes a big pool. It is a good spot that you can expect some big Sancheoneo. The valley behind the hyukeso is also a good spot. Moving around the spot is inconvenient but you can probably hoist big Sancheoneo there.

How to get there :

Passing Inje - Wontong, take the road on your left in front of Hankye ri hyukye so (resort area). You will reach Buk cheon. Ather way is coming from the north. On the way to proceed toward Sokcho and Ganseong from Yangyang eup, turn to the left at the forked street of Daedae ri. And you will arrive at the lowest section of the valley 'Buk cheon'. ...//
